Government Exam Typing Tests — Free Simulators for Every Format
Every recruitment board scores typing differently. SSC counts key depressions, the railways deduct ten words for each mistake past a small buffer, CPCT reports net words per minute over fifteen minutes, and several High Courts award marks instead of a simple pass. Practising on a generic typing test tells you very little about whether you would clear your own skill test. These simulators run each format on its own rules, in English and in Hindi Mangal InScript, free and without an account.

The one idea that clears skill tests
Almost every scoring formula used in Indian recruitment punishes mistakes far more heavily than it rewards speed. On the railway formula, a single mistake beyond the buffer removes ten words from your total — a whole word per minute off a ten minute test. On CPCT, mistakes are subtracted before the division. In High Court recruitment, mistakes cost marks that decide your rank.
So the correct training target is not "faster". It is 98% accuracy at a speed slightly above the requirement. A candidate who types 34 WPM cleanly clears a 30 WPM test every time. A candidate who types 42 WPM with twelve mistakes fails formulas that the slower candidate passes.
Hindi typing without installing anything
Most candidates preparing for Hindi typing hit the same wall: the exam uses Mangal Unicode with the InScript layout, and their own computer has no Hindi keyboard installed. Every Hindi simulator here builds the Devanagari InScript layout into the page itself, so pressing K produces क and Shift + K produces ख, exactly as on the examination machine. A key map is available on screen while you type.
The mapping follows the Windows Devanagari-INSCRIPT layout, which is the layout behind Mangal typing tests. If you already have Hindi input installed, switch the keyboard mode to "My own" and the page stays out of the way.

Frequently asked questions
Which typing test should I practise on?
Open the simulator named after your recruitment — the speed norm, duration and scoring formula all differ between boards, so practising on the wrong format gives you a misleading score.
Do I need to install a Hindi keyboard for these tests?
No. Every Hindi-enabled simulator on this site includes the Devanagari InScript layout inside the page, so your normal QWERTY keyboard produces Hindi characters. If Hindi input is already installed on your computer, switch the keyboard mode to 'My own'.
Are these official tests?
No. These are free practice simulators built to match the formats described in official notices. They are not affiliated with SSC, the Railway Recruitment Boards, MAP_IT, any High Court or any state commission. Always confirm speed norms in the notification for your own recruitment year.

How long does it take to reach 35 WPM?
From a standing start, most candidates who practise twenty to thirty minutes a day reach 30 to 35 WPM in eight to twelve weeks. Existing touch typists usually need three to four weeks to move from 25 to 35 WPM.
