Is TypeFlowUltra really free?
Yes. The full 30 day typing course, the practice test and the progress tracking are free, with no account and no ads. There is an optional one time support page if you want to contribute, but nothing on the site is locked behind it.
Do I need to create an account?
No. TypeFlowUltra has no sign up at all. Your lessons, WPM history, accuracy and streak are saved in your own browser storage on the device you practise on, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is tracked.
How long does it take to learn touch typing?
Most beginners understand the layout and stop hunting for keys in two to four weeks of daily 15 to 30 minute practice, and reach comfortable everyday fluency over the following couple of months. The 30 day course is built around that pace: short daily sessions rather than long weekend marathons.
What is a good typing speed?
For general office work, 40 to 50 WPM at 95% accuracy is a solid working level. Above 60 WPM is genuinely above average, and most data entry roles look for 50 to 70 WPM at 98% accuracy or better.
Should I focus on speed or accuracy first?
Accuracy first. Every uncorrected mistake costs you a backspace and a retype, so a clean 40 WPM beats a sloppy 50 WPM in real work. Hold 95% or better, then let speed build.
Why does my typing speed stop improving?
Plateaus almost always come from practising text you are already good at. Drill your weakest keys with custom practice text, work on an even keystroke rhythm instead of bursts, and add short over-speed intervals to raise your ceiling.
Does an expensive mechanical keyboard make me faster?
Not by itself. Any keyboard with consistent key travel is fine, and technique decides your speed far more than hardware. A comfortable keyboard helps you practise longer, which is the real benefit.
Can I use TypeFlowUltra on a phone or tablet?
The site works on a phone, but the course teaches ten finger technique on a physical keyboard, so a laptop or desktop keyboard is strongly recommended. A tablet with an attached keyboard works well too.
Will I lose my progress?
Progress lives in your browser. It survives reloads and restarts, but clearing site data, using private browsing, or switching to a different browser or device will start you fresh. There is no cloud sync because there are no accounts.
What does WPM actually mean?
One word is counted as five characters including spaces, so 40 WPM means 200 characters per minute. TypeFlowUltra reports net speed, which subtracts uncorrected mistakes, so the number reflects usable output.
